“I don’t have a clue about Reformer Pilates!”
One of the big barriers I see when it comes to trying reformer Pilates is this lack of understanding of the machine.
I get it, most people coming into the studio either think I’m either running some sort of sex cult or a torture chamber (second one is probably closer to the truth 😂). Yes walking into a room of black leather, fluffy cuffs and silver springs can be a little odd, HOWEVER… the kit is no different from something that you would find in a gym. Basically the reformer is a resistance machine but you get to lye down, for ‘some’ of it.
Don’t let the lye down bit trick you into thinking you’re in for a chilled session, thats not quite what we offer at LA Pilates. 😉
What to expect
When you come along to the studio (or any other studio) you’ll be showed the ropes (quite literally). Remember everyone was new once, even your instructor was a newbie, but over time and repetition your confidence will grow and so will your knowledge.
Every day is learning day, and at LA Pilates we keep it fun and engaging by changing your workouts every time. This is also a fab way of keeping your body on its toes! So you’re not coming into a room of people that know exactly what’s happening in the session, you’re all on the same page every class.
In your first few sessions, you need to take it easy and gently when moving on the kit, moving on a moving platform can feel very odd and will throw your balance off, so slow is nest friend on this. Once you’ve done a few sessions you’ll start to understand how your body works on the kit and your confidence will grow.
More importantly, at LA Pilates we have fun and enjoy what we do. All of our Reformer Pilates classes are full of energetic, positive and friendly people. Everyone is at studio for their own reasons, but what makes the energy so vibrant is that everyone is everyone’s cheerleader. There’s no such thing as perfect, just practice and fun!
Come along and join us, remember to take full advantage of our introduction offer, 3 classes for just £30!
And lastly….. (ps yay if you’re still reading!) I’m always here to answer any questions you might have.
See you soon,
Lucy 🙂
