How many Reformer Pilates classes a week should I do?
This is a question I get asked a lot and it massively depends on what your goals are. So lets have a look…
At the start…
I personally think that if dynamic Reformer Pilates is new to you, once a week, to start with, will be great. This will give your body a chance to recover and get used to the sessions.
After 3/4 sessions you can then start to think about upping your game.
Training to reduce back pain / injury…
To see and more importantly feel the benefits of the classes you’ll would be looking at doing 2 classes a week. This way you’re constantly checklisting your body and you’ll become more aware how you hold yourself, not just in group classes but in everyday life. This is what I did when I herniated my back.
Training for strength and endurance…
Improving your strength and endurance isn’t an easy feat. Not only do you need to up your sessions but you need to consider what you’re consuming in-between. (But this isn’t my specialist area!).
With Reformer Pilates being your main focus in training you’d need to be looking at 2-3 sessions a week. This way you’ll be building muscle and endurance at a constant rate and therefore see and feel the results quicker.
I want to be clear here, it’s not an out bashing out 20 reformer sessions and then you’re done, its about consistency in your practice, this is your key to change!
Quality is KEY…
Just like with everything, quality is your key in getting results. You’re much better doing something less that’s quality than doing more and it being poor. That’s why at LA Pilates we make form a priority in your training so you’re building power and strength from a place of security, for longevity.
Recovery…
On top of your reformer classes you also need an element of recovery. Just like a Lion, we all need a little nap to build us up for the kill.
Including slower paced classes, like our monthly Stretch class or sports massage will really help intertwine your practice and give you a whole body approach to your practice.
Not sure where you stand, reach out to me and I’ll happily guide you.
